Version Number

This is JeFCo beta 0.6, the fourth public beta release. There is still much room for improvements, but this version is pretty stable and provides the main functionalities.
Please Note: Due to major improvements regarding the database server the server list of the version 0.4 and earlier is not compatible with this version. If you have configured special server you have to repeat this setup after upgrading to this version!

Requirements

You need a Computer with a Java 2 Runtime Environment installed to use JeFCo. Visit the Sun Java Page to get their distribution for Solaris (SPARC and x86), Linux and all Windows Versions: http://java.sun.com/j2se. Visit the Apple Java Page to get their distribution for all Apple OS: http://www.apple.com/java. For the most popular other OS's there are also distributions. Please search the internet for them.

Installation

Just put the File 'jefco.jar' where ever you like. In usual graphical environments it is possible to simply click on the file to start JeFCo. In a command line environment you can start it with '[PATH_TO_JAVA_BIN]java -jar [PATH_TO_JEFCO]jefco.jar'. After the first shut down of JeFCo there will be two additional files on your system: '.jefco.properties' and '.jefco.requests'. Both files are located in your users home directory. Depending on your operating system this may be e.g. '/home/jester', 'C:\WINDOWS', 'C:\WINNT\Profiles\jester' or something similar. These files contain your configuration and all persistent data.

What Comes Next?

  • The handling of 'inexact matches' and 'multiple exact matches' is still buggy. This needs to be fixed next.
  • Printing of CD information will be possible. Please inform me about your printing needs and wishes.
  • One of the next versions will include the possibility to store the collected disc information in a free database like postgresql. This will be possible using Linux or Windows with cygwin installed. It will even be possible to import the whole distribution from freedb.org to this database.
  • Please contact me if you have more ideas or wishes for enhancements of JeFCo.
